#541 Beginning Sewing with Carol

Using Simplicity’s Skirt Pattern 2226 you will learn some basic skills:
*How to determine your size
*How to read a commercial pattern
*How to select your fabric
*How to cut out a pattern
*How to apply a yoke
*How to insert a zipper
*How to make a tie belt
*How to stitch a hem

The classes are 5 consecutive Saturdays, June 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th. Time is 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

The first class:
Simplicity Pattern 2226 – available from the Instructor for $7.00

During the first class you will learn how to read a pattern, learn about the “markings”, how to find your size and how to determine the amount of fabric needed. You will learn how to prep your pattern before cutting. Also, you will learn about fabric, such as salvage, lengthwise grain, crosswise grain, nap, and border print fabrics.

In the 2nd class you will learn how to position your pattern on your fabric and how to cut it out. Also you will learn how to select your needed notions, such as matching thread, zipper, and interfacing. During this time, you will also be given a supply list to begin constructing your skirt during classes 3 through 5.

The 3rd – 5th classes you will need to bring your sewing machine and the supplies provided to you from the 2nd class.
If you need to rent a machine from Cynthia’s, you may do so at a minimal fee.
You will learn how to construct your skirt.
